Jane Austen dress
When I first got this dress I thought the buttons were to go down the front and that’s how I put it on, and it fit just fine. Loved it! Some time later, looking at a photo of the dress on a model, I noticed the dress was worn with buttons going down the back. What?! That’s not how I’ve been wearing it! I examined the dress and realized that the pleated/gathered panels on both the front and back bodice acted to provide ‘give’ on both front and back, so the bodice molds over the shape of the body beneath it. I continue to wear it with buttons going down the front. Might not work for a really large busted body, but for average or less—give buttoning down the front a try.

Just as pictured
This dress is as lovely as pictured. Really nice fabric, a traditional sort of weaving. The seams and the general style of the dress do strike me as being a very authentic look, and distinctive from most of the dresses you see. I did get a couple of compliments on it. It is a joy to wear, and even better with the slip. I am very happy with this purchase.

Lovely and timeless
This style is one I've wanted to buy for ages, and finally it's in my favorite color, so I couldn't resist. I hesitated because of the buttons on the back, which are impossible to fasten on my own. But fortunately it's loose enough to put on without unbuttoning them, so I'm looking forward to wearing it when cooler weather arrives
